When You Think About It: King Donald I

Charles II
Words by F LoBuono
Charles II of England (1630-1685) was known as The Merry Monarch for his apparent fondness for hedonism. Although fathering no heirs with his wife, King Charles is said to have sired many children (13) from many mistresses. In other words, he was quite the ladies man.

Of them all, it is said that Nell Gwynne was his favorite. Known for her wit and charm, Nell used both to keep the King somewhat under her control. While wooing her one day, she refused his advances saying:

Since you can have EVERYTHING, you value NOTHING*.

Few, if any could speak to the King that way. But, she knew the only way to win the King's real favor was to insist that he respect her before she gave herself to him.

Charles II reminds me of a 21st Century man who also loves hedonism and power - Donald Trump. Trump has become so wealthy and powerful that few things can be denied him. He knows this and uses it to bludgeon those he sees as his enemies. And, I get the impression that he also applies that tactic with FRIENDS, as well. However, if everything can be had at your whim, can you truly value anything? In the case of Mr. Trump I fear not.

Let's not anoint him king!!!
