Today's MOZEN: FREEDOM

"Freedom cannot be qualified".


When searching for the meaning of a word, I often turn to the dictionary. That may seem obvious. However, we often assume that we know the REAL meaning of any given word when we may know it only partially or incompletely. I am also frequently surprised to discover that, in addition to the obvious, many words have meanings that are truly sublime.

Such was the case in my research for "Freedom". The first definition is obvious: 

1. the state of being free or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint.

But, there are three other entries that are more esoteric in nature and led to the formation of my original statement:

2. exemption from external control, interference regulation, etc.

3. the power to determine action without restraint.

6.* exemption from the presence of anything specified.

#6 intrigues me the most and justifies my original statement - Freedom cannot be qualified. If we are truly FREE we are not tied to ANYTHING. There is no obligation, if you will. It's all about CHOICE. And, I can't think of anything more liberating.

Still, there are many who cringe at this statement. "How can you live without ANY obligations? they will say. But, then they miss the TRUE meaning of the word. If we are truly free to make our own choices, there IS no obligation. There is only free will. And, ALL of the best choices are made when they are made with the FREEDOM of an open heart and mind. Yes, my friends, Freedom, real freedom, cannot be qualified.

Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated”
